TickerNEWS is a RSS (version 2) newsreader that scrolls news headlines across your computer screen. When you see a news headline that captures your attention, just click on the headline and it will open your browser to the selected article.

How to Use This Program

Start up TickerNEWS. The news will scroll across the screen. You can select the headlines to scroll across either the top or bottom of your computer screen. To access the settings, right click on TickerNEWS. You will then get a dialog box where you can add, edit and delete various news services.
To exit, left click on the right-hand side of the TickerNEWS window.
To make TickerNEWS immediately go to sleep, click in the middle of the TickerNEWS window (the cursor will change to a vertical arrow).

To see the details of a particular headline, left click on the left-hand side of the TickerNEWS window. The cursor will change to a hand

towards the left side of the screen when on TickerNEWS. Clicking on the headline with the hand will take you to the full story.

If you left click on the right-hand side of the TickerNEWS window, the cursor will change to a standard arrow

, and it will close TickerNEWS.

How to Add a News Service

Right click on TickerNEWS to display the dialog box. Click on the New button. Paste the URL of the service you've selected into the URL text box.

Give the selected service a name, and insert it in the Name text box

(You must give it a name, or else it won't save the service you've selected). Select preferred colors, fonts, font size, etc. and hit the Save button.

How to Delete

Right click to get to the dialog box. Select the service that you want to delete from the drop-down box. Delete the name of the service in the Name text box,

and click the Apply button.

How to Edit

Right click to get to the dialog box. Select the service from the drop-down box.

Do any necessary editing to the options shown (such as font, font size, color, etc.) and click the Apply button.

How to Exit

Left click on the right-hand side of the TickerNEWS window.

Error Messages

The following are possible error messages you may get when using TickerNEWS:

1. "Cannot find browser." Go to the INI file in the directory where TickerNEWS is located. Open the file, locate the default browser, and type in the complete path of the browser you're trying to locate.

2. "Cannot find INI file." To correct this problem, just reinstall TickerNEWS.

3. "Connection Error: A connection with the server could not be established." The service’s server has gone offline. Try another service.

4. "Connection Error: Operation error timed out." You have lost your Internet connection. Check your Internet connection.

Finding a new RSS news feed

To find and use a new RSS news feed, go to the desired web site, and find the link to the RSS news feed. The link to the RSS news feed may be located anywhere on the page, but it is usually at the bottom. Click on the link, and select the specific feed you want to run on your screen. Once you've selected the desired link (it usually says XML next to the link), click on it, and it will take you to the XML page. Before copying the URL, verify at the top of the page that it is RSS Version 2.0. (<rss version="2.0">) Copy the URL from the address bar, and paste it into the URL text box in TickerNEWS
